One of my goals this year was to present a topic of interest at a Conference. I felt this would help with my professional development, gain opportunities to network and potentially collaborate with other like minded people and ultimately give me the opportunity to attend a conference that would benefit Midwifery practice.
Earlier in the month I sent in an abstract for the Hui Whakapiripiri. An annual Hui aimed at those who share an interest in Māori health and Māori health research. The purpose of Hui Whakapiripiri 2009 is to promote current Māori health research and to encourage the participation of emerging researchers.
I am focused on exploring ways to enhance the care I give to the woman and her whanau through Midwifery care. I find reflections through using a blog helpful However, I am not the "expert" in computer technologies or Web 2.0 When I sent my abstract I intended to take the participants on a journey of Midwifery reflections. Some ideas i wanted to share are
» Web 2.0 for sharing resources,
» e-portfolios
»Collaborative research using wikis
I am really excited but somewhat anxious as I have now been accepted to present my topic. I want to make it informative yet interesting and ultimately relevant to the participants, who will be primarily those with an interest in Maori Health and research. What points do you think are most important to this audience, any ideas would be much appreciated.

Tena Koe Tania
As a facilitator of e-Learning for PeaK-ICT, five primary schools in Kawerau, I am presently working with teachers (predominantly Maori) and invited guests who are learning to create their own personal blogs, will discover a few web2 tools and make a few new e-buddies along the way. I adapted this challenge to suit the needs of new learners. The link is http://the27thingsadventure.wikispaces.com. You may find that this a great starting point for newbies to IT. I would also love to have you join us as an invited guest and then you can share our connection through the 31 day challenge and now the 27 day adventure. Let me know. Nga mihi nui ki a koe.
Hey Tania, how did you get on with invitation above-would love to know what you did?
Now, the reason for me calling - I wonder if you would like to present in one way or another (real time, or video/blog post/photo - whatever you fancy) something about your journey as a Maori midwife/IT midwife/new educator for international day of the midwife: http://onlineprofessionaldevelopment.wikispaces.com/International+Day+of+the+Midwife+2009
Drop me a line-I'd love to hear from you. Sarah
PS: how are you doing in Dunedin?
I've made a blog you might be interested in about Polynesians and Asia Pacificans in America.
